Meeting the President of the Parliament of Catalonia

Organisers of the Southern Route of the International Solidarity Convoy to Ukraine met with Josep Rull, President of the Parliament of Catalonia, on DATE to present the initiative and request parliamentary support. The meeting formed part of preparations for the convoy, which is scheduled to depart from Barcelona at the end of November 2026 and travel through other European countries before reaching Ukraine.

The delegation included David Acosta, President of XESU, the Catalan committee of the European Network for Solidarity with Ukraine and councillor for Barcelona en Comú in the Barcelona district of Gràcia; Antoni Morral, a former member of the executive body of Junts; Vadym Odariuk, representing Barcelona’s Ukrainian community [position?]; and long-standing trade union and international solidarity activist Alfons Bech.

The convoy is being developed as an international initiative involving civil society organisations, trade unions, social movements, municipalities and solidarity networks in Europe. Links have also been established with supporters beyond Europe, including initiatives in Latin America. The final list of participating countries and groups will be confirmed over the coming months.

The Southern Route is expected to depart from Barcelona and travel through France, Switzerland, Germany and Poland before entering Ukraine. Public events, institutional meetings and solidarity activities will be organised along the route to raise awareness of the continuing consequences of Russia’s invasion and strengthen cooperation between European and Ukrainian social organisations.

The convoy will also transport resources requested by Ukrainian partners to help communities and essential services withstand another winter of attacks, power cuts and damaged infrastructure. The planned assistance may include generators, vehicles, medical equipment and other priority supplies, with the final cargo to be determined through direct coordination with Ukrainian civil society organisations and local institutions.

Convoy organisers are now seeking broader support from Catalan political groups and institutions, including the foreign affairs committee? [correct name] of the Catalan parliament. Full details of the convoy’s Southern Route, including humanitarian cargo, participating organisations and its programme of public events will be made known ahead of its planned departure at the end of November.
